This episode is not a conversation about what is or isn’t categorially ‘offensive’ (I’m not that stupid) but rather, it’s a chat about how the personal experience of ‘being offended’ works. Why are some people offended by something that’s not offensive to others? If something is not offensive to fifty but it is to one, is it the thing offensive (broadly speaking) or is it offensive to one person because of how they think? Paul and I go deep exploring the psychology, the mechanisms and the broad range of variables which play a role in the getting-offended experience. The conversation comes from a place of curiosity and seeking to understand (and maybe help), rather than one of judgement about who should or shouldn’t be offended and by what in particular. Enjoy.
